margarine
(1⁄3 cup. Soft low-fat. Or butter)

vanilla extract

applesauce

dry brownie mix

(1⁄3 cup, chopped. Optional)

Instructions
Wash hands with soap and water. Ensure worksurface is clean.
Grease a 20 cm (8-inch) square pan. Set aside.
Start oven heating to 175 C (350°F).
In a mixer bowl, beat margarine, eggs and vanilla for 1 minute.
Add applesauce; beat briefly just until blended.
Add dry mix (and nuts if using); stir by hand until just blended.
Spread evenly in prepared pan.
Bake at 175 C (350°F) for about 15 minutes or until tester such as a toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.
Cool on rack, then slice into squares.
Store in covered container in refrigerator.
Notes
Regard raw flour as you would raw meat and after preparing recipe, wash hands and any surfaces that may have come into contact with it.
